Adding to our lighting ranges with Godox Knowled
We’ve been in the Film and TV Industry for a long time now and have seen a lot of changes in the way manufacturers have innovated with new technologies. We’ve always been big advocates for the classic Tungsten and HMI lighting setups, but as LED technology has developed we’ve seen real develops from many manufacturers including Aputure, Astera and Nanlight to name just a few.
One of the manufacturers we’ve been most impressed with over the last couple of years have been Godox, with their main importer based close to our Birmingham and Manchester branches they’ve been fantastic to deal with for many years, listening to feedback and adjusting their products on feedback from ourselves and others inside the industry. They’ve really taken time and effort to look at the TV and Film industry as well as Photography, Videography, Theatre, Events and Online Creation markets to come up with products which really impress. From LED lights which don’t destroy 14.4V batteries – something other brands definitely overlooked in the earlier development of LED Studio lights – to small tweaks that save precious seconds on sets for frames and attachments, all whilst keeping universal mounts and attachments to allow us to expand our range with Godox products, rather than expecting a complete shift over.

It seems almost every time we meet with Godox, they have something new to impress us with, whether it’s a light more powerful than we thought would be possible at that wattage, or a frame which allows us to dial in a level of diffusion instead of physically changing gel sheets.
In the last couple of months we’ve added even more Godox kit to our range, as well as having demo and loan units available to view in our units, always wowing everyone who has a play with it as much as it wows us.
Latest additions to our range include the stunningly powerful Godox Knowled MG2400 Bi – building on the success of lights such the 1200Bi, 1200X and competing with Nanlight and Aputure for even more powerful 2400W output lights, the Godox actually has an output of 2600W from 2900W input – making it unbelievably powerful.
This morning they showed me their new Knowled MG4K (pictured) – the power of a 4K HMI, packed down into one wheeled bag and able to put into the back of a Ford Ka and weighing just 10kg (without yoke).
And, whilst it seems a small thing, something that has impressed us hugely has been the 3′ x 3′ digital diffusion sheet and frame. The technology inside gives impressive accurate diffusion, and adjustable at the turn of a dial, so no more fiddling around with cutting off diffusion sheets and taping on new strengths. It can even be controlled by app or by DMX, so if it’s rigged up high or in a hard to reach place, no worries just increase the level of diffusion as required.
Real evidence that Godox aren’t just following the status quo and designing what’s already around, they are looking at the issues faced by photographers, videographers, DOPs and content creators and developing solutions. And they’re doing it very well.
