We’re huge fans of the Ronin 4D here at Media Dog, they’ve created a new style of shooting simply not achievable on the more demanding gimbals and camera setups, allowing incredibly long takes whilst keeping exceptional image quality.
However one thing we’ve always wished for the Ronin 4D was to give it a more vintage filmic look, a difficult task when also looking to keep the outstanding optical quality and also keep the weight low enough for these long stretches of gimbal shooting.
This was a problem that Media Dog’s Dave decided to put right. Taking our Minolta Rokkor lenses, and Cine modding them with a follow focus cog and converting them to E-Mount, we were then able to adapt the Ronin 4D R-Mount to E-Mount and pair them up, and the results were outstanding.
We’ve had a fair few people already come along for a test, and all have been impressed with the results. The Rokkor’s add an exciting subtle vintage feel to the Ronin’s already impressive overall quality.
Drop us a line if you’d like to take a look at this exceptional combo. We will soon be looking to do a similar idea with our vintage housed FD Ls and SSCs (we have the re-housed FD L and Canon SSC lenses too, but these become far too heavy for the 4D).
