Laowa 24mm Macro Probe Lens (EF) F14
Macro Periscope Lens Hire
The Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe Lens is one of the most unusual and creative lenses available to filmmakers today. It’s a specialist tool designed to capture shots that simply aren’t possible with conventional lenses, opening up a whole world of visual possibilities for commercials, documentaries, short films, product films, and creative content.
The first thing you’ll notice is its distinctive long, narrow barrel. Unlike a standard lens, the probe design allows the front element to reach deep into spaces that would normally be inaccessible to a camera. It can move through objects, inside products, between food, into miniature sets, through machinery, or into tight corners where a traditional lens physically wouldn’t fit. The result is a perspective that feels immersive, unusual, and immediately eye-catching.
This ability to get incredibly close to subjects while still maintaining a wide-angle field of view is what makes the lens so special. You can start just millimetres away from an object and still show a significant amount of the surrounding environment, creating dramatic shots with a sense of scale that conventional macro lenses struggle to achieve.
The lens has become particularly popular in commercial production, where it’s frequently used for food advertising, product films, tabletop work, and brand content. It allows filmmakers to move through scenes in a way that feels almost impossible, producing shots that instantly stand out and grab attention.
Documentary filmmakers and creative cinematographers also love the Probe Lens for its ability to reveal details and environments from entirely new perspectives. Whether you’re exploring natural environments, filming intricate manufacturing processes, or creating stylised sequences for a narrative project, it offers a look that audiences rarely see.
While it isn’t the sort of lens you’ll use on every shot, when a project calls for something genuinely different, the Laowa 24mm Probe Lens can produce some of the most memorable images in a production.
Has a built-in LED Ring light on the end of the barrel, so although the lens seems very slow at T14 it illuminates your subject nicely.
Available as an EF Mount or a PL Mount. Also available as a Periprobe with a 90 degree angle.
